Art is in the details, and the Rosenthal/Friendlander Residence is a great example.

After searching for the perfect lot for years, the owners bought an undeveloped lot with unobstructed views of the City of Boulder and the Flatirons. The owners wanted a home that reflected their lifestyle and tastes, and insisted that the architecture be as spectacular as the site.

HMH Architecture + Interiors designed a 160-foot long wall to organize the architecture and landscape, and frame those incredible views. Outside, this wall is the threshold between the court and the interiors. Inside, the wall displays art and leads you to the living room- where views of the mountains unfold. Beyond the living room, the wall continues to form a narrow reflecting pool.

As ardent environmentalists and political activists, the owners needed a home that could host fundraisers and meetings- the large open living room functions as this space. In addition, Dan is a ceramic artist and needed space for his studio and art gallery. HMH located these on the lower level of the house giving him views of the mountains and ample room to display his sculptures.

The design and construction of the house followed green practices. These included triple pane windows, closed cell urethane insulation, radiant heating, and ten kilowatts of photovoltaic panels.

The result is a home the showcases the site and reflects the owners’ lifestyle.
